Donald Trump lashed out at Germany on the first day of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit in Brussels and turned projection into a work of art. Trump said that Germany is “totally controlled by Russia” because it imports so much natural gas from Russia and for that, German Chancellor Angel Merkel fired back.
It’s been one of those days.
At one point while Trump was slap fighting with all of our NATO allies, Chief of Staff John Kelly had the misfortune to be seated near his boss. Going by Kelly’s expressions, he was not pleased. The entire meeting with Trump and our country’s partners was cringe-worthy so we can imagine that it was hard for Kelly to keep a straight face.
White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders can explain all of that (wink wink). Sanders told the Washington Post that Kelly was just upset that he didn’t have enough breakfast so he was just wearing his resting bitch face and wasn’t really upset that his boss was turning the summit into a boxing match.
“[Kelly] was displeased because he was expecting a full breakfast and there were only pastries and cheese.” Mandy Johnson, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Mission to NATO, told the Post that she was not able to provide immediate comment.
Who are we going to believe, Lyin’ Sarah Sanders or John Kelly’s face? Sure, it couldn’t be because Trump repeatedly slammed one of the NATO members over breakfast.
You can judge for yourself. Watch:
Yeah, I don’t think that was Kelly’s resting bitch face. NATO ambassador Kay Bailey Hutchison was seated right next to Donald and she reportedly looked “stricken.”
And while Secretary of State Mike Pompeo sent out a tweet heaping praise on NATO, calling it the “most successful alliance in history,” Donald Trump was busy unleashing tweets (the first one contained a typo, because there and their don’t mean the same thing) so he replaced the tweet with a corrected version, and slammed the alliance.
