President Trump has tweeted about the possibility of a government shutdown, noting that it’s a price that he’s willing to pay to see his immigration reforms pushed through. Trump took to Twitter to say: “I don’t care what the political ramifications are, our immigration laws and border security have been a complete and total disaster for decades, and there is no way that the Democrats will allow it to be fixed without a Government Shutdown.”
…Border Security is National Security, and National Security is the long-term viability of our Country. A Government Shutdown is a very small price to pay for a safe and Prosperous America!

Trump is seemingly determined to see a shutdown and has regularly tweeted about it over the last few days. Like a child who can’t get his own way, Trump is pouting and trying to blackmail his way to getting the money that he needs for the building of a southern border wall between the US and Mexico. Trump noted during a meeting with the Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte: “If we don’t get border security after many, many years of talk within the United States, I would have no problem doing a shutdown.”
The southern border wall was a central part of Trump’s election campaign, but politically it’s an absolute nightmare and no one really wants it to happen. No one apart from Trump, anyway. The man who comes from immigrant stock and has an immigrant wife is seemingly dead-set against immigration, but only when it comes from countries such as Mexico. Trump has caused outrage with his continued attempts to prevent immigration to the US from certain countries that he appears to demonize over others.
This current tweetstorm appears to be a haphazard attempt to try and cover over the news regarding the special investigation currently being conducted into Trump and his links to Moscow. As usual, Trump is using the media to try and cover over the bad news with an appealing story for his “base.” It is this continued game of cat and mouse with the media that has allowed him to remain for so long. We can only hope that the media realize that they have the power, if only they stopped playing the game.
