Back in the 1980’s, Roy Moore was already so practiced at being a skeevy old pervert that he actually had a police officer assigned to the job of making sure he stayed away from high school ballgames and the local mall, which everyone now knows he was notoriously banned from.
Retired officer Faye Gary told MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell in an interview on Tuesday that the rumors of Moore running after young girls were prevalent “on a daily basis” in Gadsden, Alabama, the city where the mall Moore was banned from was situated. “The rumor was that Roy Moore likes young girls,” she said. “It was not only in our department but at the courthouse, too.”
The 37-year veteran of the force told Mitchell that the suspension from the mall followed Moore’s habit of pursuing female employees, who largely to this day are comprised of kids under 18 in most shopping centers, being a popular location to work a first job.
Gary said that though they never pursued Moore on a complaint,
We were also told to watch him at the ballgames and make sure that, you know, he didn’t hang around the cheerleaders, where the cheerleaders would be … Every day we were looking for a complaint to come in.”
With evidence mounting against Moore supporting the idea that he’s been a pedophile since at least his early 30’s, it’s hard to imagine how Donald Trump hasn’t distanced himself from the disgraced former judge. Even if Trump faces his own allegations of impropriety and even sexual assault over the years from nearly two dozen women, it stands to reason that he would at least try to put some space between himself and an accused child molester.
That wasn’t the case on Tuesday, however, as Trump finally answered reporters’ questions on Moore, and he did everything but endorse him outright:
Roy Moore denies it, that’s all I can say. He denies it. We don’t need a liberal person in there. We don’t need somebody who’s soft on crime like Jones [the Democratic challenger in the December 12 special election].”
For her part, Faye Gary was a detective in the juvenile division of the Gadsden PD. Her appearance on MSNBC almost looked like a dare for Republicans and even the president to call a police officer — especially one with so long a career on the force — a liar, just because they don’t like what she says.
Moore has not yet commented on Detective Gary’s statement.
