On Thursday, the wife of the man whose policy allowed children to be kidnapped from their parents at the U.S. border, visited her spouse’s victims in Texas. First lady Melania Trump arrived unannounced in McAllen this morning to see for herself the conditions that migrant children are facing who are separated from their parents under her husband’s cruel ‘zero-tolerance’ policy, according to the Dallas Morning News.
Her husband, Donald, who is responsible for caging children, made the announcement of her trip during a Cabinet meeting at the White House.
Melania Trump’s office said in a statement that she made the trip to “take part in briefings and tours” at a facility run by a nonprofit.
“Her goals are to thank law enforcement and social services providers for their hard work, lend support and hear more on how the administration can build upon the already existing efforts to reunite children with their families,” her office said before she departed.
“She’s seen the images. She’s heard the recordings,” said Melania’s spokeswoman, Stephanie Grisham. “The images struck her, as a mother, as a human being.”
Odd then, that her tour’s purpose is to congratulate everyone on what a great job they did, instead of begging forgiveness from her husband’s young victims and their families.
Mrs. Trump will tour a Border Patrol intake center and a facility while holds about 60 migrant children ages 5 to 17.
Mr. Trump signed an executive order on Wednesday to halt his administration’s family separation policy, but thousands of the children who were ripped apart from their families remain in detention centers. And there is no policy or plan on how to reunite the children with their families.
“She wanted to see everything for herself… She supports family reunification,” Grisham said, according to the publication. “She thinks that it’s important that children stay with their families. I’m sure she’ll continue to let her husband know her opinions. She does that often.”
It was reported that the First Lady put pressure on her crazy-time husband to change his family separation policy.
“This was 100 percent her idea. She absolutely wanted to come,” Grisham said. “She wants to see what’s happening for herself and she wants to lend her support, executive order or not. The executive order certainly is helping pave the way a little bit, but there’s still a lot to be done.”
In reality, the Executive Order was entirely unnecessary to end the family separations — it was done purely to make it look like Trump was taking some proactive stance against the policy, instead of simply backing down from something that he personally ordered.
Grisham said that Melania told her husband that she was taking the trip and that he supported her decision, but that’s kind of hard to believe since this trip will only confirm that she married a monster.
Watch:
Mrs. Trump, an immigrant, chose her words carefully when asked if she supports her husband’s zero-tolerance policy.
Her spokesperson said, “She supports that the law should be followed.”
