In 2008, it was harder to imagine a worse president than George W. Bush. The economy was in shambles, the Iraq war seemed never-ending, and our president seemed to have no solution.
Bush was seen as an affable but simple man. Long before covfefe, we had Bushisms and they served as a reminder that maybe we didn’t have the sharpest crayon in the box at the helm.
Phrases like the following didn’t exactly inspire confidence:
“One of the great things about books is sometimes there are some fantastic pictures.”
“They misunderestimated me.”
“I know how hard it is to put food on your family.”
Nobody was proclaiming “stable genius” in that administration.
The severe problems America faces today are a direct result of the Bush Administration’s poor decisions. The Iraq War, unstable economy, and huge debt can all be attributed to George W. Bush. When he left office, his approval rating was at a measly 22 percent.
But then we enjoyed the bliss of Obama. A president who was eloquent, passionate and intelligent. A complete opposite to Bush. And we began to forget Bush’s transgressions as Obama cleaned up his mess.
Then came Trump. The 45th president has shattered every convention and expectation of behavior. His wildly unprofessional tweets, blatant racism, and awful economic policy make a pile of garbage look good. And while that’s bad for America, for one man, George W. Bush, it hasn’t been so bad.
Bush even just commented on this effect saying Trump, “Sorta makes me look pretty good.”
Ah yes, George he sorta does make you look decent. After all, you never called white supremacists “good people” or grabbed anyone by the pussy.
However, let us not forget how badly Bush set the course for America in the 21st Century. He spent a huge budget surplus left from Clinton. He declared war on Iraq, destabilizing the Middle East. He bailed out huge banks during the financial crisis who are again acting irresponsibly. We cannot whitewash what George W. Bush did to our country — and maybe that’s the thing that we really should Never Forget.
