America can’t count on Donald Trump for much, but two things the president does without fail is f*ck up and make extremely insensitive statements. Trump’s presidency has been riddled with bigotry and the exploitation of tragic events, with nothing on his mind but furthering his own corrupt agenda and lining his pockets.
Due to Trump’s greed, the National Rifle Association now has a strong hold on the president, who has done nothing about preventing mass shootings besides push the need for more guns. At a recent speech at the NRA Convention, Trump actually exploited the horrific 2015 Paris attack to make the argument for more guns — by mocking France’s strong gun control laws and insisting that if “just one patron had a gun,” the terrorist attack would have been a “different story.” Trump’s exact words were:
They were brutally killed by a small group of terrorists that had guns. They took their time and gunned them down one by one. Boom. Come over here. Boom. Come over here. Boom. If you were in those rooms, one of those people and the survivors said it just lasted forever. But if one employee or just one patron had a gun or if one person in this room had been there with a gun, aimed at the opposite direction, the terrorists would have fled or been shot. And it would have been a whole different story.”
This has forced French officials to issue a brutal response condemning Trump and his “obscene antics.” Former French president François Hollande denounced Trump’s “shameful” remarks:
The shameful comments and obscene antics of Donald Trump say a lot about what he thinks about France and her values. The friendship between our peoples will not be stained by this disrespect and outrageousness. All my thoughts are for the victims of the November 13 attacks.”
Philippe Duperron, president of the survivors’ association, also made a statement, stating that those impacted by the terrorist attacks were “outraged.”
Alas, no weapon would have changed the outcome because there were suicide bombers wearing explosive belts who were going to blow themselves in the places they were attacking.”
French Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Agnes von der Muhll also called Trump out by name and insisted that he have some respect for victims.
France expresses its firm disapproval of the comments by President Trump about the attacks of November 13, 2015 in Paris and asks for respect of the memory of the victims.”
Of course, Trump’s NRA crowd cheered at his disgusting remarks. However, much of America and the rest of the world does not agree.
