Shepard Smith is one of the few hosts on Fox News who tells the truth about Donald Trump and his chaotic, bigoted, lying White House. He also veers from the right-wing party line on issues of systemic bigotry and the way the Right perpetuates it. On Tuesday, Smith used some of his airtime to rip Trump’s repeated lies about the special counsel investigation, especially now that the wannabe man-baby “president” is amping up the rhetoric in an effort to discredit Mueller and suggest that the investigation will be used to rig the midterm Congressional elections in November.
Smith attacked Trump’s conspiracy theories as “unfounded” and “not based in fact or reason.” He then says:
The president says—back up—the president says that Robert Mueller and his team are meddling in the midterms. There’s nothing to support that claim, and neither the president nor the White House has offered anything to support that claim.”
Smith then goes on to show the tweet in which Trump accuses “13 Democrats” on the Mueller team of trying to sabotage GOP midterm prospects. Again, there is nothing to support that, and Smith then points out that Robert Mueller is, himself, a Republican.
Now, we do plenty of mocking of Fox News around here, because they deserve it. Ninety percent of the network is nothing more than a bunch of bigots in Trump’s own vein, and they shill for him endlessly and unapologetically. However, we must give credit where credit is due. Shep Smith tells the truth, even — and especially — when it means going against the network party line.
Keep on keeping, Mr. Smith. Hopefully, one day, you move on over to CNN and MSNBC so that your credibility is no longer sullied with the stain of Fox.
