Fox News is having a bad year. First their former CEO Roger Ailes was outed as a creepy sexual harassing creeper. Shortly after, the conservative propaganda machine was sued by their a couple of their on-air personalities after it was discovered that they’d enabled Sir Grabby. Then the execs at the network had to tell Sean Hannity and other hosts to stop using fake polls to prove that Donald Trump won the debate against Hillary. And now Fox has been forced to print a redaction after they lied to viewers about voter fraud.
Earlier this week, Fox reported that the Washington mall shooter, Arcan Cetin illegally voted in three elections:
The network claimed that Cetin, an immigrant from Turkey, was a permanent resident, not a U.S. citizen when he cast his ballots. The network’s viewers, of course, took the story and ran with it spreading it for and wide, all the while never bothering to confirm the facts. Unfortunately for Fox, they were soon forced to issue a retraction after it was discovered that Cetin was in fact an American citizen when he voted.
Arcan Cetin, the 20-year-old who killed five people at a Washington mall last week, is in fact a U.S. citizen, not a permanent resident.
KING 5 reported that a a federal official said Cetin is a naturalized U.S. citizen. That means he was legally registered to vote, despite reports indicating he illegally voted three times.
Of course, in typical Fox fashion, they refused to take responsibility for their own shoddy reporting and blamed it on another news site. To be clear, as a national “news” network Fox has a responsibility to its viewers to fully vet stories before repeating them. But, time after time, the network has proven incapable of telling the truth just like Donald Trump, the candidate they support. And this is why we have such a problem with ignorant people in this country.
