In a clear insult to the lack of understanding in the current presidential administration of world trade affairs, an article in the Wall Street Journal revealed that EU officials had used “colorful cue cards” to help US President Donald Trump understand the messages that they were trying to convey on important matters of international trade.
Each of the cards used by the EU officials had been simplified and “had at most three figures about a specific topic, such as trade in cars or standards for medical devices.”
The president, renowned for wild emotional swings and a short attention span, had to be babysat by the officials as they needed to try and get trade talks off of the ground. Last year it was widely reported that Trump’s attention span was goldfish-like. A White House confidant said, “Even a single page of bullet points on the country seemed to tax the president’s attention span on the subject,” as reported in the Washington Post.
The president’s lack of attention is a significant problem to those who need to deal diplomatically with the US. His international gaffes cause constant embarrassment to those in the US. Recently on a trip to London, he made several mistakes meeting the Queen. Embarrassingly, he walked in front of her during a photo opportunity causing Brits to find the episode hilarious because of his sheer stupidity and lack of class.
He’s also had awkward meetings with several world leaders such as his skin-crawling experience with French President Emmanuel Macron. In that particular exchange, he offered to brush dandruff off of the shoulders of the popular politician. Unfortunately, he rolls around the world like a drunken monkey and his requirement for simple instructions is indicative of his poor intellect. Surely Americans can’t wait until all of this is over.
