A gun rights activist who has ties to the National Rifle Association (NRA), Maria Butina, was arrested on Sunday and charged with conspiracy to act as a Russian agent to spy on the U.S. Lock her up! Oh wait, she is locked up. It’s ironic that this happened on the same day that Donald Trump refused to stand up for America and instead sided with Putin over U.S. Intelligence agencies.
Butina, 29, appeared before a magistrate in Washington on Monday, according to the US Justice Department.
Butina is accused of developing relationships with American politicians and a “gun rights organization.” In 2017, Butina and a Russian official attended the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, according to the affidavit.
Oh, FFS, how is it that the Trumps manage to meet so many dubious Russians? It’s not that hard to not meet a shady Russian:
She is known as a protege of Alexander Torshin, a Russian former state banker, who met Donald Trump Jr for dinner at the NRA’s 2016 convention. Torshin was placed under sanction by the US in April this year.”
I was led to believe that this is infrastructure week. I guess not.
Wow. Maria Butina, a Russian gun advocate who once bragged about being involved in comms between the Trump campaign and Russia, has been charged with being an unregistered foreign agent and is being held until her hearing on Wednesday. https://t.co/sHR92JKAMP

She’s was the go-between for Putin and the NRA, too. Touches a lot of figures in the Trump orbit like Sheriff Clarke, etc.

The Justice Department states that Butina had been “developing relationships with US persons and infiltrating organizations having influence in American politics, for the purpose of advancing the interests of the Russian Federation.”
This season of the Trump Presidency* just got really weird. I wonder if this is the cliffhanger!
