Corruption in government is such a cliché. It’s for Chicago mayors and Louisiana governors and the history books because nobody can just take a public office and turn it into their personal piggy bank anymore, right? That’s all in the past.
Not really, of course. There are plenty of corrupt politicians still, and I don’t just mean morally. Not the “conspiring with members of their own party” kind of corrupt, either — that’s for amateurs. No, I mean, shamelessly eating, drinking, flying, giving gifts, and living a lifestyle entirely funded by the taxpayers outside your salary. You’ve got state legislators from both parties across the country who pocket a little cash or appropriate themselves a new deck for their summer cottage. There was a big guy from New Jersey who closed all the beaches, then took a private family vacation there. I mean, even Donald Trump is making money every time someone signs up for a membership at Mar-a-Lago just because the president owns it.
But if Hollywood really wanted to make a movie about a current politician who is up to his ears in grift, they’d cast Zeljko Ivanek as EPA administrator Scott Pruitt.
Pruitt used to be the Attorney General of Oklahoma, way back in what seems like another life. Back then, when the world wasn’t completely upside-down, it was hard for Pruitt to have his way with the environment. He had to sue the Obama administration like everyone else if he wanted to be allowed to continue fucking up the air we breathe and water we drink.
But as Trump’s hand-picked EPA Director, Pruitt has been so emboldened by his ability to screw over Mother Nature that he’s started doing it to America too.
Nobody could ever forget how Pruitt explained that he just has to fly first class because the damn hippies won’t leave him alone about ruining the planet.
There was also that time when he got caught staying in a lobbyist’s $5,000 a night townhouse for the street hooker price of just one one-hundredth that amount.
On Tuesday, New Century Times reported that Pruitt used some pretty underhanded math to trick the administration into giving massive pay raises to a couple of his favorite employees — after the White House had denied the increases.
It’s gotten completely out of hand, and even Republicans are demanding that it stops now.
We learned from The Hill on Wednesday morning that two Florida Republicans in the US House are calling for either Pruitt to resign or for the Deep-Fried Dotard to deep-six him like so many other victims of the Trump Turnover.
Rep. Carlos Curbelo made it perfectly clear what he thought of Pruitt’s behavior, and Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen followed suit shortly after:
Major policy differences aside, @EPAScottPruitt‘s corruption scandals are an embarrassment to the Administration, and his conduct is grossly disrespectful to American taxpayers. It’s time for him to resign or for @POTUS to dismiss him. https://t.co/gXWLDffqam

When scandals and distractions overtake a public servant’s ability to function effectively, another person should fill that role.”
We couldn’t agree more, guys.
