In a series of tweets last week, President Donald Trump attacked online tech giant Amazon, accusing the company of paying too little taxes and being responsible for putting retailers out of business. It appears the joke is on Trump here because according to a new report, his own company’s online store collects sales taxes in just two states.
Although the Trump Organization is based in New York, TrumpStore.com collects sales taxes only in Florida and Louisiana, as mentioned by the Wall Street Journal. The website sells Trump-branded apparel and gifts, including $35 baseball caps, $20 body lotions, $50 blankets – and $36 Trump toddler polo shirts.
As of now, online retailers are only required to collect sales taxes in states where they have a physical presence. However, the Trump administration filed a brief with the Supreme Court in March that argued retailers should have to collect sales taxes even in states where they aren’t physically present.
Despite Trump’s false claims towards Amazon, the company actually paid a combined total of $412 million in federal, state, local and foreign taxes last year. Plus, it currently charges consumers sales taxes in all 45 states where such taxes exist, including Washington, D.C. — without being compelled to by law. Amazon is actually ahead of the curve, since sales tax collection has been the next logical step in the regulation of online commerce for some time now.
Meanwhile, Trump has been complaining about them for no reason whatsoever for years and years:

It’s apparent that our so-called president is a grifting hypocrite. His online store, which he is still running while serving as president, are the real tax dodgers. Once again, Trump is accusing others of doing the same unlawful things he does. The liar-in-chief needs to realize that he is not above the law under any circumstance. Hopefully, Trump and his group of cronies will be charged with fraud and money laundering.
